It had been almost 48 hours since leaving for the airport, back in San Diego. Between traffic, cabs, three planes and one long layover, I started to question what we had signed ourselves up for. As the tiny airplane descended into the airport at Kadhdhoo, I had no idea quite what was in store for us. Greeted by a big Maldivian smile, we were escorted to a boat to take us to our final destination. As we sat on the boat, we were each given ice cold fresh lemongrass iced tea and canvas bags to put our shoes and socks into. This would be the last we would see of our shoes for the entire stay. At Six Senses, Laamu, life is sweet and simple from the first moment. Upon arrival to the private island, we were greeted by a welcoming party and introduced to our butler for the stay. Given a tour of all of the amenities of the resort and finally escorted to our overwater villa. I found myself rubbing my eyes in disbelief at the magic blue shade of the water surrounding us.
During our stay at Six Senses, Laamu, there was no option but to relax. A different type of relaxation than your typical tropical vacation offers, this was a feeling of relaxation from the feet up. No cars, no shoes, just barefoot riding beach cruisers to get to our poolside lunch at Sip Sip, or to lounge in an overwater hammock at Chill Bar. With 97 villas, and six restaurants and bars to choose from, the Six Senses, Laamu is not a tiny boutique hotel. During our stay however, we felt as if somehow it was just us. Impeccably designed rooms with breathtaking water views, and the option to enjoy room service at our over water dining table, we never wanted to leave the room. We did venture out and explored all that the resort had to offer, from massages to paddle boarding to aerial yoga and more.
To top of everything else, we were dropped off on a private island for an afternoon. A 45 minute boat ride took us to a tiny atoll, uninhabited and equipped for a beautiful day in the sun. We spent the afternoon lounging, eating a picnic lunch packed just for us, snorkeling the surrounding reef and sipping rosé. This turned out to be the ultimate day in the sun!
The Six Senses, Laamu, anticipates every want and need while allowing you to play barefoot and ride beach cruisers without a care in the world. Thank you to everyone at the resort! This was hands down, the most relaxing resort and destination.
Aloha for now... we will be back to visit soon!
